Tetra Pak Printing
Tetra Pak Printing
Join artist Alison Butler for a creative and sustainable printmaking workshop exploring the fascinating art of Tetra Pak printing.
This three-hour workshop will guide participants through the entire process of designing, carving and inking recycled Tetra Pak cartons to create a unique series of hand-pulled prints. Suitable for complete beginners and experienced printmakers alike, the session offers a relaxed introduction to this versatile and environmentally friendly printmaking technique.
Participants attending the morning workshop have the opportunity to book the afternoon session and continue exploring the process further, allowing more time to develop designs, experiment with techniques and produce additional prints.
What is Tetra Pak Printing?
Tetra Pak printing is a sustainable intaglio printmaking technique where marks are etched into a cleaned Tetra Pak carton using an etching needle, or areas of the surface are carefully cut away using a craft knife. The plate is then inked with intaglio printing inks, working the colour into the recessed areas before the raised surface is wiped clean to create highlights and subtle tonal effects.
Using a printing press, the inked plate is transferred onto damp or dry paper, producing a small edition of unique prints. This fun and expressive process offers plenty of creative freedom and often delivers beautifully unexpected results.
No previous printmaking experience is required.
