Velotech Silver
Do you want the skills of a cycle mechanic? The course will provide great detail of safe workshop practices and an industry standard level of knowledge - it builds on the knowledge of the bronze level award. The award will leave you accredited to identify, inspect, adjust and replace many key components on bicycles (except e-bikes).
Aims:
The aim is that you leave as an accredited Silver Velotech award holder wih the ability to strip and reassemble a bicycle (excluding removal of the headset and bottom bracket). There is a relaxed tone to the process building to an assessment task on the second day and multiple choice question papers to complete the accreditation process.
Is it for me?
This level of Velotech is perfect for anyone looking to maintain bikes, whether their own, their customers or their workplaces. It will enable you to inspect and adjust common component systems on most bikes. It is ideal for MTB guides, coaches and leaders as well as clubs, schools, outdoor centres or sole traders, to enable you to work on bikes with the confidence of a nationally accredited award behind you – insurance not included.
Content:
This course is run in conjunction with Velotech Cycling and follows their syllabus and requirements, including:
- Moving from recreational practices to professional standards
- Working to manufacturer’s specifications
- Workshop safety
- Health and safety considerations
- British Standards requirements
- Recording your work
- Considerations for replacing components 'like for like' and making adjustments of:
- brakes – both rim and disc (demonstration of bleeding)
- gear systems
- headsets
- hubs
- bottom brackets
- chainsets

Pre course requirements:
- 1 month must have passed since completing the Velotech Bronze Award
- Be aged 18 or older
Additional information:
- Course times: 9am - 5pm
- Protective gloves and workshop aprons are provided, however we are working with greases/oils etc so we advise not wearing your best clothes! For safety, please refrain from wearing open toed footwear.
- Lunch is not included, however tea and coffee will be provided
- Parking is included for the duration of your course
